I'm kinda limited as to what colorful shade plants I can grow up here.  I've got Aucuba japonica, Leucothoe's, Bergenia, Heuchera all lined up... I'd like to put a dark foliage backdrop behind them to make them "pop".  This is in a shaded area on the NE side of my house.  It only gets very filtered sunlight for an hour or so just before noon, then it's in the shadow of my house all afternoon.   Looking for some kind of shrub or hopefully broadleaf evergreen (or rather everblack) that is between 3-8 feet tall....

I was thinking one of the darker Leucothoe's or Loropetalums but I think they need some sun to get their darker moods...  There are some dark Phormiums but I think they languish in shade.  It doesn't necessarily have to have color... just a BLE with dark green foliage would suffice... Any ideas?

Loropetalum is the only one I can think of.  If you get the dark purple ones they stay purple in shadier spots, or at least mine do.

There are some Rhodos out there with red undersides to the leaves, and some that have purple leaves in cooler weather.
