Does anyone know anything about Blechnum buchtienii or obtusatum?  Found these perusing RPS;

https://www.rarepalmseeds.com/growth-form/palmlike-tree/blechnum-buchtienii

https://www.rarepalmseeds.com/growth-form/palmlike-tree/blechnum-obtusatum

I have never heard of them but they both pique my interest.

Anyone ever germinated fern spores?  I've only tinkered with mushroom spores in sterile media but had good success.

Edit OK upon further investigation there are all kinds of Blechnum tree ferns.... I'm not getting to bed on time tonight.

If you've been successful w/ Mushrooms, Fern spores should be pretty easy as well, using fairly similar protocols.. Working w/ Xeric - type ferns myself.. Forget anything more delicate here, unless you remodeled a room in a house into a serious greenhouse.

I am definitely interested!

I have a (Neo)blechnum brasiliense, which grows like a weed and already has the beginnings of a trunk after only about 2 years. I also have a B. gibbum (properly Oceanopteris gibba), which has completely crashed and burned and is barely alive, despite being in identical conditions (I suspect the soil's somehow become too alkaline; something to try fixing this spring). Both of these are arborescent species that are readily available.
I've heard of the dwarf one, but never seen one for sale anywhere. I imagine it would make a nice terrarium plant. Never heard of B. buchtienii, which certainly looks striking. Might be tempted to have a go with spores, as they're cheap, although I am a little circumspect about buying spores from RPS as they have offered in the past spores of species like Angiopteris evecta, which only remain viable for a day or two, which suggests they are either unscrupulous or ignorant about what they're selling when it come to ferns.
