When I bought my place 40+ years ago there was one very large Kukui growing there.  No one had lived in the house for over a year and thus no one watered it at all.  I'm thinking it had/has a big tap root and found some ground water down deep.  Any way over the years I've planted a few seedlings as they are easy to sprout and grow pretty fast w/water.  Here is one seedling planted in Nov. of 2020 and what it looks like today.  It's about 10' tall now and beginning to spread a bit.
