Quick question.....

Will H. tiliaceus grow from cuttings?

I had a variegated Mahoe in the yard last season that was about 3 feet tall when winter came. I took 2 cuttings from it, stuck them in dirt and put them in the greenhouse and forgot about them.

The mother plant I left out to see if it would freeze and come back from the roots (it didn't, even though we only got one real freeze all winter)

But the 2 cuttings rooted and I have 2 plants now. I think its fairly easy to root

Thanks for the replies!

It looks like Ill have plenty of these plants now as my tree is getting a bit too big and Ive had to start shaping it up.

Metalfan-

What temperature killed your tree?  Mine has seen 34F and was undamaged, so Im not sure where damage sets in.

We had a couple of light frosts, 28-32F and it was fine. BUt it froze to the ground at 23F (our only hard freeze of the season, one night of absolute destruction, LATE SEASON in February). So, somewhere between 23-28F is the LD50

I was still hopeful, as everything else I have (gingers, bananas, erythinas, brugmansias, clerodendrons, well...everything) comes back from the roots after an event like that, I have even had other hibiscus regrow after going to the ground before, but this one was killed DEAD.
