How do you sprout this giant taro I got from a grocery store? Right now I have it sitting in water. Thanks!!

That's dedication, putting it in water while it's still in your car.

If it were me I'd put some powder fungicide or cinnamon if you have nothing else on that fresh cut and let it scab over for a few days before sticking it in the ground.  Water isn't necessary while it's bare root, I used to store mine for months in cardboard boxes when I lived in 7a.

I did the same thing back in March thinking that my Colocasias were dead after our historic freeze.  But they came back anyway and the taro that I planted came up as well!  :)

I'm absolutely shocked that I didn't lose any of my Colocasia/Alocasia from the freeze.  Some I threw buckets over last minute but many were on their own.  I did operate on some a few weeks after to cut off any exposed rot though.  I just saw my Alocasia Ivory Coast pop up a few days ago and as far as I can tell that was the last one I was missing out of like 40+ named varieties.  Tough little plants.

I ended up throwing it in my compost bin because I found a large cut all the way through the bulb, I cut it in half and saw there was rot in it. I will buy another one next week and retry.
