I feel like this is a @Silas_Sancona question but you can’t  embed photos in a private message.

This is growing in full Sonoran desert sun at a house down the road from me.  Unless I’m wrong, isn’t this Cedrus deodara?  If so, looks like I know my next purchase!

Sure looks like it..     While currently quite rare, Saharan Cypress, Cupressus dupreziana is another desert conifer to keep an eye out for.

God this is thrilling LOL.

To be honest if Cedrus deodara can hack it here, I’m half-tempted to try Sequoiadendron giganteum.  Got an empty space in the yard 10ft below the house and probably 50ftx50ft.  My wife would lose her mind with excitement.

Skip the Cedrus they're vile trees and they don't stop growing.  My neighbor has one in their tiny backyard that's close to 50' tall with no signs of stopping, when the winds blow hard here I'm always nervous. The wing span on these trees is huge so you have to have a ton of space.  Nothing likes to live under or near them, roots everywhere, and the amount of needles they shed is terrible, never mind the big cones that will knock you out on impact.  Lots of them around here, people plant them as a fast growing tree for privacy means and then they get out of hand real fast.  Neighbor across the street had to take a 60+ footer down because it was damaging his roof, and siding -  they shed needles constantly so you can't have them anywhere near a building.  Raccoons were also using it as a highway to get into his attic.

I'd try the Sequoia any day over the Cedrus.

This probably makes sense where you're at but here I don't know they'll grow all that fast.  That tree is like maybe 10' taller than I can see on street view from 2011:

Worth considering though.  Other thing is that I would not be planting it anywhere near the house at all.  It'd be way off in a corner of the yard.

I'll give it some thought, though.  You bring up good points.

Not sure size would be an issue w/ Deodar Cedar here, at least not for some time.. Heat/ lack of rainfall will slow them down more than in CA/ Ore. Agree that they need space, lots of it, lol.

Sequoidendron likely won't do well w/ our heat/ extreme lack of humidity/ rain, even in areas below 3K ft, well outside of town. Seedlings are already a bit of a challenge to get going. More likely to succeed up in the mountains ( Prescott, Sedona, Munds Park, Payson area.. Possibly Flag < Flagstaff > ) though.  Have seen pictures of them growing in, of all places, the Midwest.

To avoid root problems and the amount of space they take, I have opted to keep my Cedrus deodara in a pot, semi bonzai.  Thus far it is working out fairly well.

I don't believe that this is correct.  When I use the PM feature the system shows "choose files"  at the bottom, just as posting on any main thread.  :)

It works for IPS members, but not for forum members.  Have tried a few times in the past when messaging people..  Direct e-mail is not a problem though.
