Variegated Alocasias in FL ?

Featured Replies

Please point me in the direction of any growers who have these in stock - either odora, or macrorhiza, please. Thank you.

You don't say whether you're looking for wholesale or retail, or where in Florida you may be right now on your search...but I think there is no shortage of variegated Alocasias and other aroids in Florida (as well as other areas of the U.S. who ship plants, such as Plant Delights). If you google "variegated alocasia" you'll see many for sale from various growers such as Etsy, et al. In the Fort Lauderdale area, Jeff Searle often has a good selection of aroids including variegated types so you can call him for questions on what he has in stock. Marie Nock usually has a large selection but she is only open occasionally or at plant shows. The aroid society has a great show every September at Fairchild but their site also features links to many aroid dealers here: Aroid Society dealer links

These things are commonly in mass tissue culture production and are readily available from wholesale growers as well as retail dealers. If you are in Florida right now you can probably find some at HD or other big retailers, or almost any good nursery from Central Florida southward. If you have some time you can look on the plantfinder, find what you're looking for at a wholesaler and order them from most any retail nursery. Excelsa Gardens in Loxahatchee shows A. macrorrhiza 'variegata' and you can probably just call them and go pick it up (see their website). And if you are in the Miami area and just want to drive and pick up a variety of types right away, you can go to Homestead and drive up and down Krome Avenue and the surrounding Redlands area. An inexact solution and time-consuming perhaps, but you will get your fill of such items in that horticultural wonderland! Maybe try Santa Barbara Nursery in South Miami on Krome, they usually have a large selection of aroids.

I hope that helps.

If you are looking for mail order, I have bought several alocasia and musa from WellSpringGardens in Lakeland.  100% success rate on their plants for me.  If you want wholesale TC sprouts you could try Agristarts.  Just avoid FloridaHillNursery, I had 0% success rate with their bananas.
