Subsequent to this freeze, a colder longer lasting cold front arrived in in late January.  Ultimate low was 17F with 36 or so hours below freezing.  The spear and newest frond pulled within 2 weeks of the damage.  All other fronds were good. After waiting until March/April with no new spear growth, I removed all fronds and cut into the trunk to find living tissue.  Very little cutting was needed.  A new spear began emerging the next day.  I may not have needed to cut into the trunk, but was worried about fungus getting established.  The palm has continued to grow and now has 4 fronds.
