The center of my dasylirion quadrangulatum  has rotted out, even with great care to avoid top watering...

Is it dead or is there any chance that something can be salvaged?

I'm not growing this species of Dasylirion, only longissimum, but based on the rotted center you show in this photo, I would say it is toast....or DEAD.  Sorry to be confirming your suspicion Richard, but it wouldn't change the outcome.

That is 100% dead. Ive never lost a Quadralantrum or longissium but we did loose a wheeleri right after it flowered and recieved 8" of rain the following month.

I tossed it out on the rock pile where I hope that maybe it might pup. It has a fairly good root system.

Thanks
