Looks like a boy to me...

So after looking like it was going to flush a new set of leaves and just stalling while other cycads were flushing this spring, my Encephalartos longifolius has decided to cone, and hence reveal its sex.  While they are still growing, I think these two cones are looking like they are male.  It should be easy enough to confirm as they get larger and if male are more elongated.20160706-104A3891.thumb.jpg.e505ef2ac00a

Congrats Tracy, always cool to get your first cones on a cycad.  I would guess male as well, but will be easier to confirm when they get larger.
