May Flowers, and a Summer tease

Featured Replies

As May comes to a close, and the non traditional start to Summer greets us, it is fitting that, after what has been some fantastic weather the past couple months.. and even some un-expected ( but always welcome) spring showers/T-storms,  we are looking at the first, sustained spell of 100- 100F+ heat lurking for the end of the week ahead.

As the first spring here in Arizona closes out, the Garden continues to perk up and get back to the task of strong growth, mostly responding well to each, brief, heat spell we have had since March.

This month has seen a big ramp up in flowering with bursts of color flashing across the garden stage, only to change a day or so later. One unexpected surprise, which i'll post later, is a Caesalpinia platylobia specimen i've had for a few years. At only roughly 4' in it's pot, i wasn't expecting it would be old enough to bloom for another year or two.

Anyway, a few from the garden, and a flirtatious tease for the season that lies ahead.. can't get enough of this one.. Had to add another. Enjoy.

Cacti: 1: Glory of Texas, 2: Echinocereus leucanthus ..a rarity from Alamos, Mexico, and one of my 3 Echinopsis subdunada which always flower at the start of Summer

Assorted Jewels.. 1: Pachypodium hormbense 2: Bauhinia grandidieri, 3: Adenium X "Purple Jade" LOVES the heat

..And lastly, my favorite Sonoran seductress, greeting the summer ahead in something silky and tempting. Guaiacum coulteri. Interestingly, she possesses a slight, clean, just out of the shower fragrance up close. Don't remember noting this before. While i didn't get pictures, my 4' G. sanctum specimen also has been throwing a few flowers this month as well. No flowers on G. officinale yet, lots of new growth though.
