Tree ID in El Centro, CA please!

Featured Replies

Anyone know what type of tree this is growing in El Centro? (Not the sickly Ficus nítida to the right, the other one to the left).

From a distance it is hard to say 100% but, if i had to guess?.. might be either Ficus petiolaris or palmeri.

Basing my guess off the coppery colored, newer foliage and gold-ish hue i can see on the trunk when you zoom in on the picture. Any possible way to get closer shots of the Leaves and Trunk detail? Both might help narrow the possibilities id-wise.

Which ever species it is, its a beast.

Lol! i hear ya.. can't count how many times i have spotted rare stuff in harder to access places while out on a plant search cruise.

Wonder if you talked to someone if they might give you clearance for a closer inspection.

My guess: Ficus benghalensis. Although this tree is noted for it's formation of huge aerial roots (banyan), they are stunted in the desert because of the low humidity. The shape of the leaves is the reason for my guess.
