Clusia rosea ‘Variegata’

Featured Replies

This is probably my favorite non palm plant in my beach garden. It was planted over ten years ago as a small plant and is now almost 2m tall. Yes it is slow but has spectacular variegation .I am going to take cuttings to have backup plants if something happens to this one and to prune it into more of a tree shape.

El Oasis - beach garden, distinct wet/dry season ,year round 20-38c

Las Heliconias - jungle garden ,800m elevation,150+ inches rainfall, year round 15-28c

Thats a great specimen!

I love Clusias and the variegated form is just awesome. They used to be extremely rare but now are showing up in the nursery trade here from some SoFL growers.

It was an expensive plant ,considering it was little more than a weakly rooted cutting in a four inch pot .

That is a gorgeous specimen!

10 years ago, it would have been a holy grail plant and well worth what you paid, I imagine. I mean - just look at it now!

People warned me that the variegation in Clusia rosea was not very stable and it wound soon revert to all green. It has only gotten better. Never had to prune out a single green branch.
