Okay an 800 pound gorilla sleeps wherever it wants to, EXCEPT where an 80,000 pound gorilla is bedded down.

Here's some pics of an Ombu "tree" in Fullerton Arboretum, taken yesterday, in celebration of MKL's memorial day.

Ahem.

It's big. It's HUGE. It's not really even a tree.

Do you care? If live on an estate somewhere, with a little lot, you should care a lot. It loves you. It wants you.

Well, it wants your space.

Daniel Lewis (Palmazon) provides scale. He's not a dwarf, and even if he was, it's still a monster.

Do you really want a cutting?

Funny you should post this. I have been trying to source some plants. Those things rock!

According to Fullerton, and if it's the same tree; it's actually a hybrid:  Phytolacca dioica x weberbaueri),

I think it's the only one there. I don't think even they have room for another.

That thing staggers the senses. Well, redwoods are bigger. So are giant sequoias.

Everyone that I know that grew one in their SoCal gardens have since removed them. Unless you have a few acres, this thing grows way to fast and way to big. Plus its roots can run for what seems like miles.

I had to get rid of mine for that reason, roots go long distances. I would like another one for an area much more suited for it but now i cant find one for sale. If anyone knows a source let me know?

Poke salad Danny,

Here's a picture of the eastern pokeweed, and the resemblance to ombu is unmistakable. Kind of like finding an elephant that matures at 200 pounds.

Hmm. The Huntington it ain't, though the Ombu makes it worthwhile, in my opinion.

Not quite like the Ombu. There's a few wierdo trees, like odd Ficus, Delonix, etc.

Palm collection, not much but what they have is nice.
