Been waiting to know what we have and finally have the answer...it's a girl! How long is this phase of the plant?

The fruiting phase can last 6 months? ...just a guess...are they not super common there?

I see them on occasion in landscapes around here but don't know anyone who has one. This is our first one, in fact first cycad. DH was given one to adopt at the office but it's a tiny one.

I know the C revoluta is a common variety in general. I've seen it used in Florida landscapes more than in the bay area. It's come through scale very well and glad to see it happy enough to put out fruit/seeds. Kind of was hoping it might be a male so I wouldn't have the fruit but the female is lower on the allergy scale, so better for me.

Being California and people loving their pets so much, I wonder if it's not planted very much because of the toxicity of the fruit. It certainly can do well in our zone. We have ours planted behind our gates. Wouldn't want to ever know a neighbors dog got too curious and died from eating it.

Must not be too tasty as I have not heard of any dogs around here dying from ingesting the seed. We have zillions of them around here.....well maybe not zillions :winkie:
