Organ Pipe National Monument

Featured Replies

We recently visited Organ Pipe National Monument in Arizona (along with its sister park in Sonora, MX - El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar). We spent four days in the area, and it was amazing. It's definitely the nicest section of Sonoran Desert that I've seen.

Here are a few shots from our campsite in the Alamo Primitive Campground

Here are a few from locations near the Puerto Blanco Road. This road has been closed for many years due to border security, but it finally opened up a few months ago. It's nice to be able to access the entire monument now!

We spent more or less a full day in El Pinacate. It's relatively close to Organ Pipe, but the geology is MUCH different.

Awesome pictures el Hoagie. I thought I was looking at a National Goegraphic magazine. Awesome colors!

Wow - incredible pics. Makes me wish I lived closed to that part of the world

Jack, this brings back many memories when I lived in Tuscon and drove to Puerto Penasco MX on the gulf of california. The trip would take us through Organ Pipe Monument. What a wonderful place. So remote and beautiful. Probably the only reason it still looks that way is because it is in the middle of nowhere. How many Cholas jumped out and bit you? I always came back plucking spines from my body and dog paws. Thanks for posting.

Hoag, those shots of the cholla cactus are great. What a splendid place to zen out at.

Fantastic looking park.

Regards Neil

Looks like fun. I really have to get out there.

Outstanding. Later, I will post some photos that I my friends took at Organ Pipe park recently.

Wow. Thanks for this post! I had no idea something like that existed. I gotta get out some more...

Thanks for all the great comments guys! It really is a fantastic place.

During my four days there, with a lot of time exploring off trail, I only had a cholla stick to me two times (although each time required about 15 minutes with a pair of pliers to get all the spines out).

Great pictures. Did you climb down into the crater?

Yes, the AZ desert is wonderful.

Great pictures!

Even around Kleenex it gets your attention for its singularity.
