I have always called it Dahlia (with a soft "h") as was the botanist Dr Anders Dahl of Sweden.

Here in UK everyone else seems to call it Day-lee-ah.

Am I alone?

For the record I dont like most of these (esp.hybrids galore packed into the same bed) but I have just taken delivery of two tasty looking D.imperialis which grows to at least 13` as most of you know and that is very different indeed!

Thanks

Dave...mine come back every spring...most do, anyway. I have lost a few (but at the rate my wife buys new ones, I'm still over run) The trick is to stop all water after summer is over....resume when they start leafing out again in spring.

Jon- I say Doll- ee-ah. I also grow Dahlia imperialis( I have 2 clumps, one is 5 years old and the other 4. It easily reaches 15 feet in a season. I am also growing a personal collection of Dahlia coccinea I collected on La Pena in South Western Tamaulipas last summer, and also D sublignosa from the same general area of Tamaulipas. I love them, but mainly the species ones, not the big fru fru hybrid super doubles, though I will get the 2 double imperialis that are sold at Plant Delights.
