Euc ficifolia ( WA) X Euc ptychocarpa ( NT, Nth Qld) then grafted on a Euc intermedia ( Nth Qld to Syd) = Corymbia "Summer Red". This excellent small hybid Euc/ Corymbia allows gardeners from "all climates" of Oz to grow this in their garden and enjoy the bright large flowers which the lorikeets and parrots enjoy too.

Its just started to flower here, post your Summer reds or Summer pinks you Aussies or other Ptalkers have flowering.

Pete :)

Like I mentioned before.. WISH we had access to this cultivar in the U.S. Spectacular!!

Curious how this cross handles heat/drought/cold exposure? Can't grow Corymbia ficilifolia ( spelling?) here in FL ( too hot/humid ).. and would assume the more tropical Corymbia species involved in this cross would be too tender/ not look good in dry climates like CA.

The hybrids are suitable in both dry and humid climates. The type of rootstock used extends the growing range.

Fairy Floss is very pretty I eas going to buy one last summer but my other half said that the flowers looked washed out with the white tipped anthers. One of my neighbours has an orange cultivar that tricks me into thinking that their garden is on fire when the colour is seen from the corner of my eye. They are so popular around where I live.

Do you know if corymbia ficifolia could be grafted on any eucalyptus specie, especially not a corymbia?

Great-looking hybrids. Thanks for posting (even if they can't be brought to the States).

Corymbia ptychocarpa grows and blooms well in South Florida. Check with Jesse Durko in Davie.

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.
