This hybrid cross was made by the late Rudy LaSogga of San Diego (Spring Valley). I got a very small plant from him and here's what it turned out to look like. Nice! I have no idea which two species this is a result of, unfortunately.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

One of the parent species looks like it could be P. stenolobum........ up until recently I thought it called was P. williamsii but apparently stenolobum is after incorrectly called williamsii. Anyway it's a long narrow leaf shape and a more sparse philo.

Nice plant Al!!

Welcome to Palmtalk Plag.  When you have an opportunity, you should post a couple of photos of what it looks like here in San Diego area where it was first conceived.

Thanks! Unfortunately the one I have is in a pot because I no longer live in San Diego and it must be kept indoors here. It looks nice even in a pot though. It's one of the plants my grandpa had on his back porch.
