My friend and I were hiking up the stream on the land my wife and I own on the Big Island and discovered this old Banyan tree. Don't know how old it is, but it looks like its been there awhile. Also found a nice waterfall.

Yes, those are Archontophoenix alexandrae. There is a whole forest of them in the stream area. In fact the entire wet side of the island is over run with them. I've heard that there aren't any native Banyan trees and that the Chinese brought them to Hawaii over a hundred years ago.

We don't live there right now. We're only just getting the house built. I knew there was a stream, but hadn't made the hike up it before this latest trip over there. We were exploring the best place to put the micro hydro electric system in. I'd like to be off grid.
