Hi All

I know this topic has been debated many times, but I am hoping to get some info. I know given the rarity of the former, it is most probably Z vazquezii but the narrower pinnas definitely look different from my other plants. Having never seen a female cone (all my other plants are male), I also can't ID it on the cone

I would appreciate your comments

To my novice eye, it does not look like either one, but rather has a "hybrid look" to it. But others know much better than I do.

Zamia vazquezii is variable. The large cone makes me think it is this species.

I'm looking at this on a small screen, am I seeing smooth leaflets with no serrations on the edges? First observation would say vazquezii, but these leaflets look smooth and the plant holds the leaflets a bit different. If I'm seeing this right, I'm going out on a limb and thinking this one might be different and really worth keeping. Tom

I do not have access to the plant at the moment, as I am yet to collect it. Apparently there isn't much serration on the leaflets - I have requested some better pictures and hope to have these available soon

Tom, when you say "this one might be different", do you mean it could potentially be something other than Z vazquezii, or a nice variable form as suggested by Jody?

The leaf/leaflet morphology suggests Z. fischeri to me, but the cone is so big. After looking online, though, I think this is true Z. fischeri.

Thank you Jody - now to find pollen here in SA.....

I have had 1 or 2 people message me privately regarding pollen sources - thank you for that! I can't seem to reply to PM's; not sure if it's due to not enough posts on the forum yet?
