Hey Tom, been a while since I checked out your web site. Do you sell broms too? Im going to research the ones you mentioned...they sound nice.

Never mind...found them......can these be grown in more shadier locations? Do they have to have full sun to have color?

The cherry cokes lose a lot of the color in shade. The silvers do a lot better. I have piles of dyckias not on my site because I now have a very good sized amount of what I call 'collector' dyckias. But for the landscape types, I have a few that I have smaller numbers of that aren't on the site, one is Black Moon. It can be almost black in full sun, but still holds a pretty good dark color in mostly shade. Black Gold is also pretty decent, but doesn't seem to hold up as well here in Florida when we have a winter. On the collector types, you could look up nasty species like D goehringii, or hybrids like Arizona and Snaggletooth.

Ran around with the camera this arvo and took a few shots. Not many broms, nor are they that collectable, but i like them. As i said, i've just kicked off my Bromeliad addiction. Boy is it a good one...

Neoregelia 'black forrest'. Had to check the label on this. Looks different to the ones on google. I might have mistook the label. Another new one. This gets full arvo sun and isn't looking too happy. I asked a guy where i bought this and he said a general rule is 'the more spines, the more sun'. Should it stay or get a little more shade?

Another new one. Lost the label for this. Same as the brom above. It's looking a little bleached but i followed the spines rule. Hmm...

Why oh why didn't I read this thread earlier? Love the photos. I know next to nothing about broms but I'm hooked. Can't wait to develop this addiction.

Nice broms NA......you are well ahead of me......but I got a friend who has been into broms for years. I stopped by today and took a few pics. It is winter here so some things have seen a little frost.

He has an unbelievable collection.....sorry I don't know all the names. ..

Heres a few that I have in the rainforest garden some of them 20 years most of them the past few years some color anyone can name them I would be obliged different Neoregelia etcs. Most of these have taken down past 20F --- not as colored as they could be as I have them in shade for protection.

The B. nutans has taken down past 17F many years ago

but I can't remember them......yes they are all growing in his yard....oak canopy....he throws sheets on them sometimes.....he does get some die back....but he has been doing these for many years so he knows what is more sensative and what needs extra protect ion

I grow my bromeliads on trees and some around my tropical pond ( video tropical pond at my Youtube Channel in my profile ). My location is in The Bay Area, California Zone 9 . Most Billbergia and Neoregelia can take cold weather down to 30*F- 25*F when grow outdoor at the area without freeze temperature. Grow them under a big tree , close to house walkway, patio with filter sun and no freeze wind. Like my place and your location, it would take sometime for them to adjust to the cold weather.

They look great with mixtures in trees. I think you've just given me an idea...

Nice way to dress up a plain oak tree...good mixture there.

This bromeliad post is great! So many people sharing pictures of beautiful, exotic bromeliads! Took us a while to get our pictures taken but wanted to share them with everyone.

Bo-Göran is right about getting hooked on bromeliads before you know it. It happened to us while we weren’t looking. We bought one here and another there without the same passion we have for palms but mostly for the splash of color they added around the palms. Before we knew it our collection seemed to be everywhere. We have a couple of sensational hybridizers on the island and that has certainly afforded us access to some wonderful and unique bromeliads. Unfortunately our early interest didn’t extend to their names, just their shapes and colors so now we have a vast nameless collection. Oops!
