I've created a monster

Featured Replies

This is the biggest offset that I've been able to propagate yet. 15 gallon pot, stands a little over 5 feet tall (in the pot) and the leaves are about 30 inches long.

Yep, that's yours Nickolas. Notice that it's opened and expanded a new leaf since I first sent you a pic a few weeks ago. I think it's happy.

I bought a perfectly healthy little one and safely transported it to Virginia. Unfortunately I managed to kill it before I could get it to my farm.

Matty, that's a beautiful tree. I'll try again when I have a chance...

Great looking plant!

I can't seem to find any around me. I've been on Zone 9's waiting list for one of these monsters for about two years.

Wow, a fatty from Matty!

haha...

Ditto Jim. Got any extras for sale? That looks very nice.

1st, what is it?

2nd, weirdly, that plant showed up in my dream last night. Some cantankerous old beardy dude had it in a half whisky barrel in his truck bed as he was rutting up my parents' lawn. . .

Ficus dammaropsis. Looks ultra tropical, and yet struggles in the tropics.

Too much water?

Not to hijack your monster thread but whats the palm in the pot on the shelf to the right of the monster?

That palm in the background is Archontophoenix purpurea.

If you want to get on my waiting list you can contact me privately, but right now it's running more than 1 year long, so you might wanna look for someone else who might have them quicker. I know Ron Lawyer had a huge one for sale, Jeff in Trabuco Canyon had some, Bags has started propagating them, Gary Levine might have some, etc.. I'm considering raising my prices for new wait list people because the demand is so high and supply is so limited.

You're on there Burt, but I won't be getting to you until well into next year. Sorry. Each one takes 6-10 months.

what is it?

what is it?

Donno why they call Ficus Dammaropsis the Highland bread fruit tree, I would think a better fitting name would be Highland Ruffles potato chip ficus.

Donno why people claim they are rare...

Well done Matty and look great in the ground Nick. Is that Hyophorbe next to it the one you dug up from my house. If so, that thing didn't skip a beat!
