Hello, could one of the cycad specialist give me the name of this one, really straight and beautiful.

I have never seen one so extra and "arrogant". Found it near the house of my friend Xavier, just by the beach, among hundreds of dypsis madagascariensis,  10 miles from the malagasy corypha.

Xavier's little girl gives the scale this time again.

It will be too hard to tell from the pics. However just taking a guess I woudl ahve to go with Cycas thouarsii. It is native there (although some disagree).

Bruno,

A very large speciman. Are there many in the population in that area? I agree with Len, it's most likely the native species there. Last year when I was down on the Masoala, we some some growing only a few feet from the salt water. Thanks.

There were about ten of them, and another one with several straight trunks like thisone, enormous, that must have been about 7OO meters away in another depression like this one. There were no others as straight. It is the straightness that attracted my eye. I have seen many cycas in different locations on Mada, with long leaves to the ground or thick trunks always a little crooked. Are they all thouarsii?

Hello Bruno,

Yes, they are all the same species. Would'nt they look nice if some were transplanted down Independence Avenue in Tana? :D
