Sorry, Phillipe, this is the only one I have on my phone right now:

j81o.jpg

Supposedly a Dwarf Cavendish, over a year since I bought it as a 2 foot tall plant. Both it and the red zebrina "Blood-leaf banana" to the left of it were about the same size and living in my office over the winter.

Since I put them outside I had to repot the Cavendish, but after a lull the Zebrina is starting to catch up. The big fella here is putting out a new leaf every 2 or 3 days and has 9 pups coming off the corm at last count. I'm hoping with enough care this summer it will actually bloom and fruit before winter.

Thank you Eric J,

Is the garden we see behind your plants a garden "en devenir" you'll plant too or does it belong to a no-gardener-neighbor?

Do your palms seedlings enjoy the balcony too or is the atmosphere in Nebraska to dry for them?

Not to derail Bananengeknl's thread, but everything over the wall is our new neighbor, they just finished cutting down 30+ years of unmanaged brush and volunteer trees and have lots of plans for a big green back yard. All my seedlings (everything in my house actually) is out on the deck for the summer with an in-ground vegetable garden off camera to the left. This is also my first year on this property and there has been a lot of tree-trimming and preparations for more long-term gardening options.

If all works out I'd like to get all my bananas in the ground next year and see about bringing enough in over the winter to replant in the spring, while leaving some corms in the ground to cover with mulch/compost and see if they'll survive the winter. I'd love to get some Musa Basjoo and have a whole patch year after year. I think my micro-climate in the inner city may allow it.

As to Bananengeknl, I think all of those look great! I can't wait to see more pictures. I just planted some Ensete ventricosum seed and hope they take off like a rocket as well. I'd like to use them as seasonal privacy screening for the yard, chop 'em off and bring them in for the winter and then go again the next spring.

Awesome Ae Ae!

I caved and planted my banana in the ground. Turns out they're not Cavendish, but Musa Basjoo!

Will post pics later.

Zebrina, repotted and even more happy than before.

The Cavendish-turn-Basjoo split into four groups and finally bouncing back with extra growth. They look so much smaller when they're not in a 30 inch tall pot on my deck.
