Show us pictures of your Cycas! Sometimes I think they're a little underappreciated because of all of the interest in Encephalartos.

I got my parents a Cycas thouarsii for their front patio and they love it. It looks tropical and it doesn't prickle people like a Sago palm might. My dad told me to forget about "cycads" and grow "those" instead!

Anyway here are pictures of a few of my plants.

Nice collection! Your C. debaoensis x C. revoluta looks a lot like my Taitungensis x Guizhouensis hybrid.

DSC00023-2.jpg

That is a nice cross! With the taitungensis in it I'll bet it will be a vigorous grower.

It's hard to photograph but the C. debaoensis X C.revoluta has a split leaf that gives sort of a "two layer" look to the leaves. I hope that the future leaves split even more.

Wow thats neat! I wonder if all C. debaoensis crosses do the same thing. I will put that one on my wish list. :greenthumb:

Last week hot weather here (90F-100F) burnt some of the leaves on my Sago, I bought it in the greenhouse area of the local nursery. But this weeks cooler temps (70's) have green up some of them.

I've been using a free online picture reducer to make mine smaller.

That is what I bought it as. But no, I am not sure. I was surprised that none of the leaves were divided, but I thought maybe it was a trait gained with age. Other plants I have, like Macrozamia glaucophylla have split leaves only sometimes... What would it be if it isn't Cycas multipinnata?

The first two shots are my C. revoluta that I just bought yesterday. It has a 6'+ spread and about 18" of trunk. I planted it by myself this morning, which was no small chore.

This is my C. debaoensis. I had it in a small pot for about 2 1/2 years and it never did anything. I planted it about 3 month ago and it flushed for me.

A friend of mine gave me this C. circinalis a few months ago.

For some reason, I have 36 cycads and only 3 of them are from the genus cycas. I didn't realize that. I will have to check into getting more representatives of Cycas.

Heres photoas of C. diananensis --its a mainland species seeds were originally distributed as C. parvulus

Female cones helped me confirm identity --- these were the sources of pollen for the hybrid. They have some resistant to the Cycad scale .

Here is a picture of my Cycas revoluta X Cycas debaoensis. I just got a matching plant from George Sparkman this weekend. This plant started out with fairly broad leaves but I'm growing it in full all day inland sun and the leaves have narrowed.

Cycas debaoensis. Fast growing and after this flush I have decided it must be moved. It is too big for where it is planted.

Nice looking plant Len.

In more sun it would grow more upright which I think is better for the plant as the leaves get larger and you don't have to worry much about high winds at your place.

Happy growing,

Beautiful Debaoensis Len, such an amazing leaf structure. I saw one at Dean's place a few years back and it stopped me

in my tracks. It looks like a fern more than a cycad.

Cycas here in Hilo are so prone to scale that many people won't have anything to do with them. I've got a few and one has to keep on top

of the maintenance to keep the scale under control.
