First, thanks to all of you Palmtalkers who participated in our back issue Palm Journal give away.

Of course, we have an ulterior motive. We want you to join us! You don’t have to live in Southern California. All you have to do is love palms.

The Palm Society of Southern California is dedicated to the enjoyment, research, education and conservation of or about palms.

Our Palm Journal is our jewel. We’ve been putting it out for almost 30 years, and it just keeps getting better and better. I don’t think we’re bragging, but just stating the obvious. Those of you who have received sets of Journals will know this to be true.

We are the only journal of an all-volunteer plant society that I know of that has regular articles and other contributions by both passionate enthusiasts and world-renowned botanists. Contributors include, but are not limited to: Dr. John Dransfield and Dr. Don Hodel. They offer thorough analysis of nomeclature issues, and why names were, should have been, or should not have been, changed. Keys to species ID. Growth tips. Reams of habitat shots. By experts’ experts.

Those of you who have received recent issues know that National Geographic has little or nothing on the Palm Journal when it comes to pictures.

Most of the contributors are from Southern California, but by no means all. We get articles about raising palms from all over the world. The advice and experience of Southern California enthusiasts is equally applicable to Mediterranean climates all over the world: Chile, South Africa, Western Australia, and, of course, around the Mediterranean.

We are now making a special offer to new or re-joining PSSC members: sign up for year’s membership, and, for an extra $6.00 U.S. to cover postage and handling, we will also send you four previous issues of the Palm Journal.

In other words, send in $46.00 and you’ll get Palm Journals going forward, plus four going backward to addresses in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

If you’re in Canada and Mexico, send in $55.00 plus $12.95, for postage and handling for a total of $67.95.

You can send a check to David Paul Bleistein, PO Box 6, La Habra, CA 90633, or you can pay by PayPal: Go to www.Paypal.com, then use our address: paymentsforpssc@yahoo.com.

Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

I belong to 18 different plant societies and PSSC has the best journal out there! It is amazing that they put it all together by volunteers. I know how many hours they spend on it.

I would also take them up on the back issue give away.

Go to our website and print out the form for membership, and fill out the necessary numbers. Make sure to add the security code (that little 3-digit number on the back of the card) so we can process it.

If you have further questions, shoot me a PM.

Dave, Is this offer still available? If so, I'm in and will send $ via paypal ASAP. Plus, I thought I'd bump this thread since others might have missed it with all the pre-Biennial excitement.

I used the website to pay $40 to join, but didn't see the option of adding $6 for the extra 4 issues. I thought I could use the $20 offer option for past issues and just change the price to $6 since I already have the amazing $20 collection, but it showed up as the foreign membership with no options to change. I'll try going into my paypal account to see the address where my $40 went and maybe I can send the extra $6 that way? If not, I'll send you a PM.

I just sent the extra $6 along with a note through paypal so I think that will work. Thanks!
