Here's a nice example of preserving an existing Southern Slash Pine, Pinus elliottii var. densa, in the middle of an industrial park parking lot. Lots of room given to not disturbing the roots has undoubtedly helped its survival.

Very nice pine tree. What is that down on the right side of the pine?

That is an exceptionally nice specimen and you can see where it gets its varietal name "densa". It is lucky to have survived the woodcutters of the last century as well as getting a builder to not encroach too much upon the root zone. It looks like it is doing well in an irrigated location, too.

Those plants to the right look like Queen Emma Crinums.

So many species,

so little time.

Beautiful specimen. There was a few of these in our yard when we bought the house. We have lost 3 due to the hurricanes of 2004-2005. Since then we've planted 8 new ones. I love them. They provide mulch and shade. Great filtered light. And I love the sound of the wind blowing through them.

I love the south FL version of the Slash Pines, nice dense and spreading canopy.
