Dear all,

I found this Cycas in south east of France importer. It has been sold as C. sexeminifera but I dont think it is the correct name. Does this cycas could be segmentifera?

Thank you very much for your help!

Regards.

Hi Jean-Michel,

I am not 100% sure as so many Cycas look similar. One thing I have noticed about mine that is different from about 15 other Cycas I grow is that the newest leaves that have emerged have light covering of brown tomentum and the petioles are covered in it. It gives it some color on the leaves and it last for a few months for me before it comes off an revewals a semi-glossy leaf. This cycad hardly ever grows an above grown stem, and yours is showing one. But if could just be old. Just guessing, but I think this is too big for Sexseminifera.

Thank you for your answer. Somebody on a frebch forum told me about Cycas ferruginea (?).

Anyway I will try it outside with a good winter protection.

About this last point does some growers in "borderline zone" use protection for cycads?

Sincerely.

Jean-Michel
