Mmm that's a nice one! (Walt - your adenium is another beauty.)

I wonder if what's "completely" eating the adenium is the Oleander caterpillar? I never had any trouble with my adenium collection...... until a neighbor 2 houses down planted a huge oleander hedge. Now, it's a struggle keeping my desert rosies going, due to the nasty orange-y caterpillars.

Dear Monika :)

Nice visuals & kindly post visuals of it when they are blooming_please,i wish to see what colored flowers they put out. :)

Dear Ed :)

I do not know wheather they belong to the same family of plumeria plants, but ademiums & plumerias require the same climatic & soil condition as a regular cactus plant.More water & clayee soil will result in rottening of the entire plant in just 3 weeks time.

Lots of love,

Kris :)

Such beautiful Desert Roses! I have 3 varieties...they bloom very well every year. Here's some pics.

The first photo on the left is: Adenium 'Ice Pink' which was taken a few days ago...the other is the common Desert Rose taken last year.

Kris:

Does your white flowering variety fade to pink? I have a white variety which fades to pink...not sure what the named-variety is though.

  • Author

Dear Andy :)

No the white variety remains as it is but dries up very fast compared to the other varities that we got ? :hmm:

And thanks for those lovely visuals...

Two of our Adeniums in containers. They will be planted in ground soon.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Reviving an old post w/some new picturs.

WalMart is selling 3 colors at "1" of their 4 store on O`ahu. I think they may be cuttings as I don't see any caudex forming on any of the 15 (5 each) I bought.

Ice Pink. Very light pink almost white:

This they call Red. But I'm looking at it as another type of pink:

Here is one I've had for years it's probably a Thai hybred called "Number One".

The second is "my" hybred of A. swazicum X A. obesium. The bee's made the cross and I have about 1/2 dozen in pots. Another post will show a second in the ground, but only close up of the flower.

Last three shots for today.

The first is of 45 seedlings of plane old A. obesium

The second another white. Lost the name tag. Flower is larger than "No. One"

The third is my "grounded" hybred A. swazicum
