Has anybody grown tree ferns from spores??

Years ago I mail ordered a large variety of tree fern spores, but never actually started any... I don't even know if the spores are still good.

Has anybody grown tree ferns from spores? Is it possible that the spores are still good after being in sealed plastic containers for the last four years?

I have grown them a couple of times using sterilised mix.......they can be a little tricky. Every now and then they will turn up growing in my shadehouse in orchid pots.

I ordered some spores in February from rps: Blechnum cycadifolium, Cyathea dregei, and Cyathea sp. 'Tiny Top'. I put ground coco fiber(reptile bedding) in small plastic deli cups. Then I spread the spore on the surface and ceram wrapped the cups. Oh and I moistened the medium. I put the cups in my terrarium, which is lighted for maybe 14 hours a day and is hydrated with a fog machine several times weekly. The dregei spores have tiny mossy growths around them; I just saw them today. No action from the other two. Except for a couple spots of mold in the cycadifolium cup.

I get 'em growing wild in my potted bromeliads, mainly Adiantum and Cyrtomium species. The spores just flitter around the shadehouses till they find a spot to settle down. Sometimes cool, sometimes not.

Sowing ferns is not all that dificult if you properly work sterile, but for a Cyathea or Dicksonia spores of 4 years old,......that's very old,....very unlikely they'll germinate, unless kept in the fridge all that time?
