OK... so this is a dinky seedling still with 'strap leaves' though most recent leaf starting to show a bit of 'faness' to it.  fully exposed in open area to 27F for 5 hours plus no frost.  Plant killed.  Yikes!

Second plant, in a raised planter, right next to a seedling Archontophoenix purpurea that was killed outright, shows burn on all its leaves... but will be OK.

3 gal plant in a plastic pot, 4 divided fronds...overhead lathe protection...prob exposed to 25 F and no damage.  This one should take it much lower. This one shows stress in summer sun, needs part shade in the summer. It's very SLOW.

0-10% leaf burn at 13F, for a bunch of them left outside on the ground all winter in 4" pots. They did enjoy some protection from snow cover some of that time. I'm finally potting them up now.

Low of 14F. 14 days straight of below freezing temps. 50% overhead protection. 15 Plants in pots (1gal to 10gal) and in the ground had no damage.

Two 2-year old seedlings expired after 36 consecutive hours below freezing with an ultimate low of 17F.  Both had been planted in the ground for 1  year. One plant succumbed immediately.  The second plant retained a green frond until spring. Both plants were under live oak canopy.
