Those are gorgeous! The first one is so delicate looking, what a beauty! You can never have too many cordylines.

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

The first one is actually 'John Klass' (almost right Peach :winkie: ) and is a sport from 'Red Sister'.

Isnt red sister that big old one that everyone has and usually stuck out to fry in the hot sun ? I have a lot of the coloured cordies here but my favourite is the ordinary green one, the palm lily. Mine is taller than the house now. The funny part is even plant oriented people dont know what it is !!

Very nice Peachy!! Hmmm Jeff, you ARE the expert but our Purple Prince does not have curly leaves like the one in Peachy's photo (actually I like yours better Peachy). If you look it up in "the book" it states that the leaves of Purple Prince are flat, not curly.

Yes 'Red Sister' is very common and has the flush of pink during the cooler months but don't confuse it with 'Rubra' which is even more common. If you compare both plants (John Klass and Red Sister) they are very similar (despite the colour) and highly unstable. Large plants of 'Red sister' will quite often throw 'Baby Ti' as a sport and an intermediate plant. 'John Klass' does the same thing.

The big green one you are talking about is that the native Cordyline petiolaris? That is one of my favourite Cordylines.

Sorry Andrew I have no idea. Bought it 14 years ago at the market, a few weeks after I moved into this house. It was labelled a palm lily and as I wanted anything palm related I bought it. If I get around to it I will take a photo over the weekend for you.

Sounds like it may be C. petiolaris as it is quite often sold as 'Palm Lily'.....C.petiolaris has long dark green leaves that tend to arch over towards the tip. The leaf edges arch downwards too. Another one known as the 'Palm Lily' is C. manners-suttoniae which is found up this way. It's leaves are a lighter almost lime green and its leaves are flatter and don't arch as much. Both species grow quite large.

Andrew, although I had to go to the massive effort of looking over my shoulder to see the window, petiolaris is definately it. I had never noticed it's finer points before until you described it. You clever old sausage you...!!

Thanks for this post......I was trying to remember the name 'Ballerina'.....Ballerina is another sport that is related.....it is identical in colour to 'John Klass' but has smaller leaves much like 'Baby Ti'

I bought something as a Ballerina Grande or something like that.... I really hate Ti names... they are so confusing... I also hate croton names :mrlooney: .

I supposedly have Ballerina in two different sizes so maybe the little one is white baby doll. Who knows!?!
