I bought this tree from Jesse Durko's Nursery last year & completely forgot the name of it. I sure could use some help. Does it look familiar to anyone? It's supposed to be a medium sized tree.

Thanks, Randy

Hi Randy,

Tabebuia impetiginosa, now renamed as Handroanthus impetiginosus. Ipe is the common name. I have heard Ipe pronounce as ippy and as ee-pay. You should ask Don K or Gileno for the correct pronunciation.

AreDo you know if the other Tabebuias have been re-named as well, or just the ipe?

All the hardwood types have been renamed. Mostly leaving T caraiba, heterophyla and the other softer wood types.

Thanks Jerry, I do remember them saying it's a cross. What it's crossed with, I don't remember.

It is impossible to know what the cross is, and they cross pretty readily. You will have to call Jesse.

Some of them look better than others, some are a funny cross of yellow and pink flowers. Some will bloom in ecember and some in the Spring. Yours looks big enough to bloom.
