Cordylines are quite common here. In all sorts of shapes and colors, but popularly grown under just one name: 'cordeeleenes' or 'cañillas', commonly mistaken with Dracaenas. I have a few in my garden. They give a nice color contrast.

I love cordylines... but I am only getting into it as I acquire more shady spots. They don't like full sun here in Darwin. Morning sun is best. At the moment with the dry season sun, the one that I do have looks really great. I took some photos at the Government house open garden. I might post them once I downloaded them :)

Regards, Ari :)

Only just starting to get back into them.......used to have over 300 cultivars of Cordyline fruticosa in my previous garden but they were very difficult to keep looking good due to constant and persistent 'Red Spider Mite' infestations. Now that I am not in a sugarcane growing area I don't seem to have the same problems with Spider Mites so I am slowly introducing more of them into my garden.

Here's my two favorites that I have... I think this ones called CandyStripe... Pink on the edges...

The second one would be almost black, very dark purple with the emerging leaf lime green...

Lime green slowly darkens to a almost black color...

Candy Stripe looks like Kiwi and the other looks like Black Magic.
