Broms for hanging baskets and mounting....

Recommended Posts

Although I like all broms, I have a real thing for stoloniferous types….i really like to mount them on trees, but I also mount them on logs and put them in hanging baskets…and the longer the stolons, the more they cascade.

All of the ones pictured are Neos, btw…….

This is Neo. Super Fireball, hanging high up in shade house #1

Neo Morona …. pendula v. brevifolia X rosea (…this is often confused with pendula)……. this one is very stretched due a fertilizer mishap, and even resembles pendula v. brevifolia somewhat……some very old nutricoat released a lot of nitrogen too danged quick.

I'm also fond of a rambunctious clump of stoloniferous neos, they make a great look. (No photos to share, however.) I admire folks fortunate enough to have palm trunks and tree limbs to grown them on, that's even more attractive. Love that Mo Peppa Please clump and your last shot is a really nice display, awesome.

Rusty,

Great photos, and yes, this really adds to the landscaping effect. Bromeliads on trees and fallen logs. Here we also have plenty of tree ferns, and they are perfect for bromeliads. Attaching a small bromeliad is usually pretty easy. And that arrangement in #10 - very nice! :)

Lovely collection you've got. Are those hybrids your creation? Here, they grow either on trees, on rocky places or in the ground. Mine, as usual, do not have names or id, sorry. No hybrid knowledge... Such is life in this side of the tropics

Bill...Thanks a lot..i neglected to post a pic of Neo Jill, another stoloniferous one that can take a bit of sun...who know, you may get one sometime?!?!?! :winkie:

Kim, i do wish i had more angiosperms to throw some broms into, but i have found that even 'smooth barked' crown shafted palms will take broms...granted some are slower than others, but eventually they attach.

Thanks for your post Bo.....I really think that broms are a wonderful addition to growing palms...i only have 4/5ths of an an acre, but where ever i plant the two, they really do compliment each other. :)

Wow, Patricia, what nice plants!!!! ..making a stab at ID, the first two look to be Alcantarea imperialis and Aechmea Loies Pride..looks like 4 pics down is an Aec. chantinii..looks a bit squat to be Aec. zebrina...

Nice pics, thanks!

thanks all!

Well, Gina, where do i start???? HA HA just kidding :D , have to say that you have posted the BEST mounting scene for any bromeliad.

Acanthostachys is a wonderful,"in your face" brom, and my one attempt at growing it ended in failure....... apparently, i lacked the proper MOUNTING SCHEME.....

Cool Pic, Gina, sorry i was so late in saying so!!!!!!
