DId you ever have a Bird's nest Fern (Asplenium) and you wished you had two of them?

You can't marcot or air layer them -- you need to do something a bit more extreme.

Here's my attempt:

Manila, Philippines

53 feet above sea level - inland

Hot and dry in summer, humid and sticky monsoon season, perfect weather Christmas time

Nice, detailed explanation for those unfamiliar with this prop technique. As an alternative, I usually just use a sterilized, very sharp knife and cut through the center of the fern through to the root mass, but then leave it potted. Captan drench (15 ml fungicide x 3.8 lt water) of the damaged crown is optional. Some time after they plant begins to push new leaves from two well-differentiated crowns, I then repot the two as separate plants.

I find that limiting severe trauma to a single event at a time tends to improve my success rate in propagating pretty much all plants.
