Oh my, Randy, I love cycads and those are  just adorable. I feel terribly jealous! The cones photos are magnificent. As Leo, I'm really interested to know the kind of soil you're using. They are in full sun, right? For how long have you had them?

Leo the plant is planted in Corona soil. Loamy soil that drains well!

Aaron and Patricia thank you for the kind words! I got this plant about three years ago.

It had a 12" caudex now it's 17" and it coned for the first time this year.

Randy, that is a very nice specimen cycad. I too am growing a lot of different cycads but I do not have that one.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

That coneing action blows my mind, she's a beaut Randall.

Hot and dry in the summer, cold with light frost in the winter. Halfway between the desert and ocean

Randy, the cones really look important :) . How large will they get?

WE/I (still having problems with addressing the garden) have a few.

If I recall correctly the cones are orange in color. Do they change colors. I'm still learning?

Do have a Happy New Year!
