Recently while checking out the garden section at our local Lowe's I noticed a few plants of Euphorbia punicea, sometimes referred to by its common name 'Jamaican Poinsettia'. When I got home I looked it up on the internet and then decided I'd better go back and get one as it sounded like this would be a good plant with colorful flowers for our climate and growing conditions. Apparently this plant is farely new to cultivation as explained why on this website -

Here are 2-pics of my plant. Has anyone else tried growing this plant?

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

hello Al, they grow great here in Miami. After about 7 years, mine has reached 8 feet. It likes lots of sun. I have also started some from both seeds and cuttings. good luck!

I love the Search option! Lovely photos at my fingertips, often with comments from folks I have now met.

I started mine from seed maybe 10 years ago but they are still in pots. First because I was in VA. Then because I feared too much water in PR. Maybe I should get brave and plant one out, huh?

Guess I could start by sinking the pot in the ground somewhere and watching it closely first like I tend to do with my trees.
