They say whilst the Mango trees are coming on with lots of flowers this year, that we will not get much fruit, .....they say.

The new spurts of leaves and flowers sure look great either way.

Wal, my mango tree is also absolutely covered in flowers. I guess with the forecast of a wet spring, it will not be too good for fruit set....the next few weeks are crucial.

Hello Wal - that's only partly true. Mango trees go through growing phases 2-3 times a year when they produce plenty of new leaves. Usually there is a self-regulated 'brake' to this from Jan onwards so that the flowers are ready to come out in March-April but sometimes the timing goes all wrong and if new growth comes out in Jan-March, no flowers are produced that year.

Unrelated to this is the phenomenon wherein trees that produce a good harvest one year may not flower well the next.

The trees up here are into the second flowering... The first are ruined by the July rain. Hopefully the rain would hold off a little for the mango farmers. The nam doc mai are covered with fruit... but I haven't seen any KP fruiting heavily this season yet. Bad season for mangoes!! I don't think I would get any from my tree this year. Last year I got half a dozen fruits...

Regards, Ari :)
