I took these pics for posting on another website. Then I figured I might as well post them here also.

Bo,

Now that your garden is finished, why don't you come over and help dig some holes for a week or two?

Ha ha, the garden may be just about finished (if you can ever say that!!), but I have umpteen acres in the back that I'm just beginning to attack. I could use an army of little helpers....

Hey Dean,

A question from the ignorant... What conditions will these guys tolerate? They look full on tropical; heat, humidity, and filtered sunlight. Any thoughts for coastal San Diego?

Bret,

I have some of the Philodendrons doing fine in Leucadia. (See the following pics) However, the first pic above (the purple/black Philo) is not one of them. So, I don't know about that one. The following two pics of Philos are in Hawaii, but are of plants that are doing fine in Leucadia.

The colorful Anthuriums I posted, I would guess are a no go. Although I do have a few of the green foliage type growing there and they are doing better than I would have imagined. The following Anthurium pic was of a plant that was surviving in Leucadia. With decent canopy and humidity, I think a lot of them are worth a try in coastal locations. Quite a few are from higher elevations. However, they are not easy to find.

Great pictures of the aroids.  I have been picking up a few every once in a while when walking about in the forest around here.  Although a lot of them grow a bit up from the ground you frequently find fallen branches from storms with some nice ones.  Some of them grow down low or on the ground as well.  I think they are great plants.  I will take a few pictures and post them.  Amazonia has a lot of these plants, I really have no idea how many.

Here is a picture of airods and other plants growing on an old  Attalea speciosa in the forest of eastern Amazonas state.  The tree was probably around 20 meters or so in height.  It is sort of hard to get real sharp pictures shooting upward into the forest canopy from the dark forest floor.
