Hi,

Recently visited a new acquaintance and she had this gorgeous? plant in her patio. She didn't

know its name and I.m hoping to get one myself.

Pics below. Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi Janie,

It looks like it could be Anthurium salvinii? (locally called Tabacón).

Formerly Jeff in Costa Rica

Here's a photo of a large Anthurium salvinii. The leaves on your friends' plant look a little different somehow, so now I'm not sure.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for leading me on the right track... have now looked up a few anthurium sp. and

the closest (possibly the correct one) was the Anthurium hookerii (Birds Nest Anthurium).

Perhaps, the aerial roots around the trunk resembling a bird's nest?

Thanks again :D

Hi Jeff,

Just came across another sp. the Anthurium schlechtendalii.

It is very similar to the Birds Nest Anthurium. I.ve difficulty in telling them apart

i.e. the leaves look alike (to the untrained eye). Saw an image of the white aerial roots for A. schlechtendalii while all other sp. images do not show.

Unsure now which is the correct match - await further info.

Ta :D

Hi friends,

I believe it is not an A .salvinii, these have a unique feature by covering every new leaf with some kind of a protective leaf, looks like a cabbage when the leaf comes out.

Can be any other , and there are many Tabacones, all smaller than the one in #3.

A. salvinii here in Costa Rica is the largest ...as far as I know.
