I dug this sago today, It was growing as a large stem off a giant male est to be 40 yrs old. sorry no pics before the dig as I forgot the camera.

It appears to have morphed and crest for the first time this spring, Cristate cones are a phenomena that occurs rarely. I hypothesize that this years cold winter turnd this particular trunk crested, there was another head that morphed into two heads(which isnt all that uncommon) many of all the other males in town are just fine and normal.

You've definitely got an eagle eye Luke. This plant was growing on the street I live on and I never noticed it, other than it's always been a healthy sago. Congrats on your acquisition!

    Thanks for the comments! Lucas, I agree it looks more prehistoric than a regular revoluta!

    I also have the cycad cone air drying indoors in hopes to preserve this unique cone. If anyone has any ideas on preservation I would like to hear about it.

    I ended up making a clean cut and applying fungicide along the bottom. all potted up in perlite now!

    Ed, This was growing at a local gas station, the owner allowed me to remove this 'pup'. I traded my services and cleaned/trimmed the massive sago clump.

    WOW! that one is great. A guy in LA has a huge one in his front yard that a fellow palmtalker showed me., maybe this is THAT ONE?

    I have since found a couple more of these, unable to add them to the collection, but one is pretty mature.
