It was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones in Brazil!

On Sunday we went to Serra das Orgaos National Park. I met up with Judy on the trail with a refreshing stream behind us and Jayanne is showing off the great scenery.

Craig did the same the next morning while waiting for the bus to Rio Botanical Garden.

After all these years talking online, it was great to finally meet Gileno. We really enjoyed hanging out with all the Brazilians at the biennial. Here is Alberto and his wife Nellie and Gileno on the right.

Thanks for the pictures. I have been anxious to see some from the event. I really wanted to attend. The little palms look like Euterpe to me. I love the mountains around Rio they are wonderful. I look forward to seeing more

I tried to talk to Lindsey about the palmiest palms, but all she did was laugh. I mentioned it to Jack and he said that he's given up trying to get her to understand.

Craig said the best part about the biennial was seeing old friends and making new ones. As soon as he saw that picture of Gileno, Alberto and Nellie above, he said "I miss them already". Gileno's wife Barbra wasn't in that shot, but I have one of her coming.

Yes Don - there were many Euterpe. I got a little seedling from an area that had about 100 of them, but it didn't make it. Oh well, it would have died here eventually.

My camera settings were messed up so some of the indoors and night pictures aren't that great. Here's Elena from Uruguay (an IPS Director and FM Elena B. Uruguay) at dinner Monday night. Geri and Dave (FM SW_FL_Palms) sat across from us and Sue (an IPS Director and FM palm student) and her husband Turk were next to us.

Here is my delicious bowl of red beans and rice - it was so good that I went back for seconds.

The next morning at Herminio farm, Craig was asking this little leaf why it wanted to turn green instead of staying red link the other one.

This white underside didn't show up so well in the photo, but it was beautiful.

Craig found a palm that he could identify although he said it wasn't in the top five palmiest palms of all times.

We started up this road and discovered a wonderful trail along the hillside.

We had a great time at the farm and the owner was a wonderful host - providing fresh fruit and cold water throughout our stay. We also got some ice for our beer on the bus - ice was in short supply and expensive at the hotel.
