It was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones in Brazil!

On Sunday we went to Serra das Orgaos National Park. I met up with Judy on the trail with a refreshing stream behind us and Jayanne is showing off the great scenery.

While taking the bus to our afternoon tour, the bus driver stopped to allow us to take some photos of the great view. Here is Michael and Brett with MB Palms and Ray.

While we were waiting for the bus to arrive that afternoon, Andre made some new friends.

Craig did the same the next morning while waiting for the bus to Rio Botanical Garden.

After all these years talking online, it was great to finally meet Gileno. We really enjoyed hanging out with all the Brazilians at the biennial. Here is Alberto and his wife Nellie and Gileno on the right.

Kathryn, I'm glad you had a good time and hope you're having a good time, if you're not home yet! Hope to see more pics, Peter

Thank you so much for the pictures Kathryn. I see I missed out on the "gang" again. It was a blast in Costa Rica. Looked like fun there too!

I do some experiments and learning in my garden with palms so you don't have to experience the pain! Look at my old threads to find various observations and tips!

Some palm shots (don't ask me to identify them).

Kathryn,

Thanks for the pictures. I have been anxious to see some from the event. I really wanted to attend. The little palms look like Euterpe to me. I love the mountains around Rio they are wonderful. I look forward to seeing more

I tried to talk to Lindsey about the palmiest palms, but all she did was laugh. I mentioned it to Jack and he said that he's given up trying to get her to understand.

Craig said the best part about the biennial was seeing old friends and making new ones. As soon as he saw that picture of Gileno, Alberto and Nellie above, he said "I miss them already". Gileno's wife Barbra wasn't in that shot, but I have one of her coming.

Yes Don - there were many Euterpe. I got a little seedling from an area that had about 100 of them, but it didn't make it. Oh well, it would have died here eventually.

My camera settings were messed up so some of the indoors and night pictures aren't that great. Here's Elena from Uruguay (an IPS Director and FM Elena B. Uruguay) at dinner Monday night. Geri and Dave (FM SW_FL_Palms) sat across from us and Sue (an IPS Director and FM palm student) and her husband Turk were next to us.

We had a great time at the farm and the owner was a wonderful host - providing fresh fruit and cold water throughout our stay. We also got some ice for our beer on the bus - ice was in short supply and expensive at the hotel.

Here's a shot showing some uprooted trees from the rains the week before. And an Attelea just beginning to trunk.
