Some Peltophorum dubium, Yellow Poinciana are flowering now. This has been an off year for them. It seems every 2-3 years they don't flower heavily. I think they go in spells. Last years was a real good year. I spotted this specimen on the east side of town near UCF.

Not bad. Isn't August a little late?

Closest thing I've seen lately in SoCal was this Crown-of-Gold, Senna spectabilis, at Cal Poly Pomona:

Funny thing is that I never noticed the tree before Friday, despite having gone to school there 5.5 years. Granted, most of my classes were elsewhere on campus, but this tree is near the main parking lot, not some out-of-the-way corner.

There is one somewhere like Rosemead/Covina area that I used to pass occasionally that was over 40'/13m tall. I wish could remember what street it is on...
