I was at the AOS garen on Saturday and saw a mouse trap tree - Uncarina decaryi. Is anyone growing it? Does anyone know anything about it? And where I might be able to purchase one?

That is a very nice small tree, gets 8-10ft tall.It bears golden yellow flowers with a maroon throat during the warmer months and has soft felty leaves. It likes full sun and well drained soi and is drought tolerant once established. Seems to be reasonably cold tolerant. We have one about 4ft tall and it wasn't damaged at 30F this past winter. Its a deciduous plant but ours didn't lose the leaves until that 30F night. Its native to Madagascar and is in the Pedaliaceae Family. There is a very nice specimen in the Spiny Madagascar Forest exhibit at Fairchild. Several mail order places carry it; Gardino's, Aridlands, Shoal Creek Succulents.

Just realized, I wrote about Uncarina grandideri. They are very similar but U. decaryi has much more deeply lobed leaves.
