Hello,

yesterday we had a meeting for some users of a "Musa-forum" - only 20 minutes from my home - it was very interesting to see all the plants in the two big greenhouses and outside (for sale).

Nice bananas!!

The ones with yellow flowers are cool climate I think. They don't do so well over here in Manila.

Hi Gene,

it is Musella lasiocarpa (Golden Lotus Banana) - she likes to have more than 18° C for fast growing, but tolerates temperatures USDA 7 to 10b - but I am not shure, how it works in Manila :winkie:

I've seen some of those here and they always look like they are struggling. I think they come from high up in the mountains of China

I think Manila would fall under Zone 11 based on the US Zone system.

Yes, Gene, they grow up to 2800m in China/South-West Yunnan and is endemic there.

I think, it is too hot in Manila - its a great pity! :winkie:

Hallo 8er-Moni,

Janni

@Gene: don't know how the musella would do in manila, but I think that it wouldn't be a big problem for a banana to thrive in a hot humid climate. you could try to protect it from rain or keep it in the driest corner of your garden. just go for it and try one. but to be honest: in manila you can grow bananas which are by far more beautiful than this one :winkie:

Hi Janni!

You can be glad to live in Germany in such warm climate - here it is not posssible! Perhaps I will buy a litte plant in the next days   and keep it in winter in the cellar, too.
