I thought about this cross when I first got into cycads and always wondered what it would turn out to be the barbs on a ferox with the barbs, overlapping leaflets and blue of a horridus. I really hope you get some viable seed. These could be a crazy cross. Has anyone that you know of made this cross successfully?

Looks like a very nice specimen to me. It does seem like a cross to me. Am I right?

Hey, George. Please keep me in mind if you get viable seed! I got 15 or 20 seeds of E. ferox x trispinosus from a friend a few years ago and two of them germinated. They are both doing well but don't look anything alike. I look forward to watching them develop.

I will keep you in mind Jody. I remember seeing the E. ferox x trispinosus at your place and not really being able to see the parents in the cross.

Yeah but one is only a flush away from great looking cycads again after these cold spells.

yes it is a hybrid and coning for the first time and showing a pretty good mix of both parents in the cones.

That is a awesome hybrid George. It looks super robust and vigorous. My guess is longy x horr. I see longy in the cone

Here is a new Cycad i picked up last week. I think it is Ceratozamia Robusta, having a nice bronze/brown new flush.

How much sun can these guys take?

For me they need partial shade for sure but I do not grow very many. Maybe Jody can answer this one a bit better.

They prefer partial shade/filtered light here in Florida as well. Full sun may cause them to wash out a little.

For those of you are members of the yahoo cycad forum I would recomend going there right away! Highly entertaining to say the least...
