I was wondering if i can just plant the red/orange sago seeds and if they will grow. Or is there something that is needed to be done before planting? any ideas or help...thanks...

First question is......

Were the seeds artificially fertilized?

If yes then throw them in a bucket of water and see if they sink, if they float they're no good

Let the sinkers soak for a day and them peel off the orange coating. Just remember that the ornge coating is toxic so wear gloves

If the seed is fresh you will need to store it for several months for the embryo to mature

We generally germinate seed on perlite on a heatpad at abt 85-90F

or you could germinate them in moist spagnum moss in a warm part of the house.

If there are male plants in the very near vicinity chances are you will get 25 - 50 % germination. As bruce said you can lay them on top of damp soil or perlite and you should get germination. I germinate about 50 each summer from my plants.

thanks guys...i just dumped them in a bucket, they are from my garden, and i have male pretty close, so a bunch fell to the bottom and some stayed afloat. As for the ones that are good, i just peel the orange covering and then set them in some moist soil? A majority of the sagos i have have been pups pulled from the bottom, so this is my first time trying this. is there a mix of sorts to use for the seeds, and how long till i see germination? thanks again guys.
