Hello! :)

I would like some info regarding the cold hardiness of some of the more tropical Encephalrtos and especially E. laurentianus,E. gratus,E. paucidentatus,E. inopinus and E. latifrons...How many degrees can these species withstand with only minimal leaf damage and when do they defoliate?

Also some info on how many flushes per year each species does in cultivation would be good :)

Thank you very much in advance! :)

Best regards,

-Konstantinos

Thank you very much for your reply George! :)

I did looked them up online, and extensively i would say,but i didnt found anywhere any specific burn temprature mentioned...I just found descriptions such as ''does not tolerate frost'' and ''tolerates just light frosts'' and also a minimum temprature of -1.1C at davesgarden website for the E. laurentianus but that is not a very good site for minimums from what i have seen as they say for example that Prestoea acuminata var. montana tolerates -3.8C if i remember correctly, something not true from what i have read in there...

Also, the info on E. latifrons is that it tolerates light to medium frosts and the davesgarden gives a minimum of -3.8C...

I had found that yahoo group of The Cycad association in my search for info and seeds but i didnt knew how good a forum it is as you cant view it unless you register for it...But now that you suggested me that,i will join! And i will most probably join the association too, soon! :)

Btw,what is the palm in your avatar?Maybe Euterpe edulis?I have always liked that avatar photo of your a lot! :)

Best regards,

Geoff Stein is a very educated grower and does wonders to DGs. But going to the cycad forums and list is the best way to get help from growers around the world. There are probably a few Greek members even.

Go to davesgarden.com and pm palmbob, he will have all of your answers, Ed

Hi Kostas,

you should inform yourself on the internet.

There are really good sites regarding cycads.

You might want to join the cycad society to hook up with other cycad fans.
